King of Diamonds is a fusion of nostalgia, culture, and commentary on the duality of success. Built from scanned elements of an Ebony magazine from the 1980s—one my wife gifted me from a trip to New York—this piece layers history with modern perspective. At its core is a quote from the legendary MF DOOM: “Only in America can you find a way to earn a healthy buck and still have your attitude on self-destruct.” That line has always resonated with me, highlighting the paradox of wealth and self-sabotage. King of Diamonds is more than a collage; it’s a statement on power, prosperity, and the choices we make with both.
